Therefore, They were searching for a well around his land and found a well which was very close to his fields. Therefore, the family was very happy. They thought that now their troubles were over. Thinking this they went home happily.
The next day farmer reached the well to get water. As soon as he poured the bucket into the well, a man came there. He said to the farmer, this well is mine. You cannot take water from it. If you want to take water from this well, you will have to buy this well.
Hearing this, the farmer stopped for a while and then started thinking that if I buy this well, he will never face shortage of water nor will I have to wander here and there for it. Finally an amount was decided between the two. The farmer did not have that much money but he did not want to miss this opportunity. So the farmer promised to give the money to the man the next day and headed home.
This was a good opportunity for the family to buy a well. Therefore, they did not want to delay this deal at all. As soon as farmer reached home, he informed to his wife. Her wife talked to relatives and close ones and the farmer told to his friends about the deal. Both husband and wife started arranging the amount for the well. After the help of the nears and dears, the family collected that amount. Now the farmer was completely sure that no one could stop him from buying the well.
He kept the bag of money at his bedside and started waiting for morning.He was eagerly waiting for the night to end and he would go to buy the well. With this thought in his mind he could not sleep the whole night. The next morning he set out to buy the well.
After reaching the man’s house, the farmer paid the money and bought the well. Now the well belonged to the farmer family, so they e did not want to delay in drawing water. As soon as the farmer’s wife picked up the bucket to take out water from the well, the man again said wait, you cannot take out water from this well. I have sold you the well, the water in the well is still mine. The couple became disheartened and went to the king’s court to complain for justice.
Do you know what was the name of that king? King Akbar. King Akbar heard the whole story of the farmer and then called the man who had sold the well . As soon as he heard the king’s order, he ran to the court. The king asked him, when you sold your well to this farmer, then why are you not letting him take water.
The man said, Maharaj, I had sold him only the well, not the water. After thinking for a long time, when he failed to solve this problem, he called Birbal.
Birbal was very intelligent. Therefore, King Akbar used to seek his opinion before taking any decision on any matter. Birbal once again asked both of them about their problem. After knowing the whole story, Birbal said to the man, Okay, you sold the well and not the water. Then what is your water doing in the farmer’s well? The well is not yours, immediately take your water out of the well. As soon as Birbal said this, the man realized that his cleverness would be of no use now. He immediately apologized to the king and accepted that the farmer family had full rights over the water along with the well.
Seeing this, King Akbar praised Birbal’s intelligence and fined the man selling the well for cheating.
Moral : Always be honest. dishonesty will be uncovered, and you will have to face the consequences of your actions, just like the man selling the well in this story.

कुएं का पानी बड़ी दिलचस्प कहानी है. एक बार एक किसान और उसकी पत्नी बहुत चिंतित थे। उन्हें अपने खेतों की सिंचाई के लिए पानी की आवश्यकता थी। इसलिए, वे उसकी ज़मीन के चारों ओर एक कुआँ खोज रहे थे और उन्हें एक कुआँ मिला जो उनके खेतों के बहुत करीब था। इसलिए परिवार बहुत खुश था. उन्हें लगा कि अब उनकी परेशानी खत्म हो गई है. यह सोचकर वे खुशी-खुशी घर चले गये।
अगले दिन किसान पानी लेने के लिए कुएं पर पहुंचा। जैसे ही उसने बाल्टी कुएं में डाली, तभी एक आदमी वहां आ गया. उसने किसान से कहा, यह कुआँ मेरा है। आप इससे पानी नहीं ले सकते. अगर आप इस कुएं से पानी लेना चाहते हैं तो आपको यह कुआं खरीदना होगा। यह सुनकर किसान कुछ देर रुका और फिर सोचने लगा कि अगर मैं यह कुआं खरीद लूंगा तो मुझे कभी पानी की कमी नहीं होगी और न ही मुझे इसके लिए इधर-उधर भटकना पड़ेगा। आख़िरकार दोनों के बीच एक रकम तय हुई. किसान के पास इतने पैसे नहीं थे लेकिन वह यह मौका चूकना नहीं चाहता था। इसलिए किसान ने उस आदमी को अगले दिन पैसे देने का वादा किया और घर चला गया।
यह परिवार के लिए कुआँ खरीदने का एक अच्छा अवसर था। इसलिए वे इस डील में बिल्कुल भी देरी नहीं करना चाहते थे. किसान ने घर पहुँचते ही इसकी जानकारी अपनी पत्नी को दी। उसकी पत्नी ने रिश्तेदारों और करीबियों से बात की और किसान ने अपने दोस्तों को सौदे के बारे में बताया। दोनों पति-पत्नी कुएं के लिए रकम का इंतजाम करने लगे। अपनों की मदद के बाद परिवार ने वह रकम जुटाई। अब किसान को पूरा यकीन हो गया कि उसे कुआँ खरीदने से कोई नहीं रोक सकता। उसने पैसों का थैला अपने सिरहाने रख दिया और सुबह होने का इंतजार करने लगा। वह बेसब्री से इंतजार कर रहा था कि रात खत्म होगी और वह कुआं खरीदने जाएगा। मन में यही विचार लेकर वह पूरी रात सो नहीं सका। अगली सुबह वह कुआँ खरीदने के लिए निकल पड़ा।
किसान ने उस आदमी के घर पहुंचकर पैसे दिए और कुआं खरीद लिया। अब कुआँ किसान परिवार का था, इसलिए वे पानी भरने में देर नहीं करना चाहते थे। जैसे ही किसान की पत्नी ने कुएं से पानी निकालने के लिए बाल्टी उठाई, आदमी ने फिर कहा कि रुको, तुम इस कुएं से पानी नहीं निकाल सकते। मैंने तुम्हें कुआँ बेच दिया है, कुएँ का पानी अब भी मेरा है। दम्पति निराश हो गये और न्याय की गुहार लगाने राजा के दरबार में गये। क्या आप जानते हैं उस राजा का नाम क्या था? राजा अकबर. राजा अकबर ने किसान की पूरी कहानी सुनी और फिर उस आदमी को बुलाया जिसने कुआँ बेचा था। राजा का आदेश सुनते ही वह दरबार की ओर दौड़ा। राजा ने उससे पूछा, जब तुमने अपना कुआँ इस किसान को बेच दिया, तो फिर इसे पानी क्यों नहीं लेने दे रहे हो ?
उस आदमी ने कहा, महाराज, मैंने उसे केवल कुआँ बेचा था, पानी नहीं। यह सुनकर राजा भी सोचने लगा। देर तक सोचने के बाद जब वह इस समस्या का समाधान नहीं निकाल पाए तो उन्होंने बीरबल को बुलाया।
बीरबल बहुत बुद्धिमान थे. इसलिए राजा अकबर किसी भी मामले पर निर्णय लेने से पहले उनकी राय जरूर लेते थे। बीरबल ने एक बार फिर उन दोनों से उनकी समस्या के बारे में पूछा। पूरी कहानी जानने के बाद बीरबल ने उस आदमी से कहा, ठीक है, तुमने कुआँ बेचा है, पानी नहीं। तो फिर आपका पानी किसान के कुएं में क्या कर रहा है? कुआं तुम्हारा नहीं है, तुरंत अपना पानी कुएं से बाहर निकालो। बीरबल के इतना कहते ही उस आदमी को एहसास हो गया कि अब उसकी चतुराई काम नहीं आएगी। उसने तुरंत राजा से माफी मांगी और स्वीकार किया कि किसान परिवार का कुएं के साथ-साथ पानी पर भी पूरा अधिकार है।
यह देखकर राजा अकबर ने बीरबल की बुद्धिमत्ता की प्रशंसा की और कुआँ बेचने वाले व्यक्ति पर धोखाधड़ी के आरोप में जुर्माना लगाया।
सीख: हमेशा ईमानदार रहें. बेईमानी आखिरकार उजागर हो जाती है और दुष्ट को अपने कृत्यों का परिणाम भुगतना होगा, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे इस कहानी में कुआँ बेचने वाले आदमी को भुगतना पड़ा।
